Merry Christmas Eve!!

When it comes to holiday eating it's definitely a challenge to stay on track.

But, there are so many ways to stay focused. Here are a few of my favorites:
- remember the mantra "nothing tastes as good as fit feels"
- try just little bites of everything instead of whopping amounts
- choose to abstain altogether
- or choose to treat yourself once or twice.

Figure out what tactic works best for your personality and stick to it. One of the best bets is just to bring your clean foods with you. Bring a great big veggie tray or a healthy dessert (like my Eat-Clean Trifle) to an event this holiday season and you will not only be helping your guests stay healthy, you'll also feel comfortable with the food options.

Give Day 21: Give a Designer Touch (& Winners!!!)


I love the new look that can come from rearranging your furniture. It's a cheap and cheerful way to spruce up your home. Help somone jazz up their living space with a bit of your energy and creative talent (I know you have it). It's fun and the results are immediate.

Years ago before I began my writing career with Oxygen I was an interior designer and my tip for you is... always arrange things in multiples of 3. Put your candles and poinsettias in groups of 3 or arrange gifts in piles of 6 for a balanced and colorful holiday grouping.

Give Day 19: Give a Spa Day!

The holidays are quickly approaching and with that comes the stress and strain of getting things organized and ready for family gatherings, trips away from home and lots of food (healthy, clean food of course)! 

On Saturday, I encouraged you to "kidnap" a friend for the day and today's GIVE follows along the same theme of taking some quiet time to enjoy with the ones you love. Today's GIVE is also all about pampering in the midst of the busy-ness. 

Take that friend or another or a family member of your choice to your local nail salon and treat them to a mani and pedi. Can't get to the spa? No problem! Do your own treatment at home. You can set the scene with candles and calming music. Don't forget the foot and hand massage! What a special gift that doesn't cost much either. 

Today I am treating my girls to manis and pedis at home. It's a great way to spend time with my girls who are home from university.

Give Day 15: Give Holiday Travel Tips

Know someone who is travelling this holiday season? Offer to help them pack. 


This used to be one my least favorite tasks and I must do it often. In fact, very soon my family and I will be heading to Mexico for our family vacation. I know my girls won't do their packing until 5 minutes before we leave so in hopes to make sure things run smoothly, I am offering to help them pack the day before we depart. 


I plan to let them in on some very helpful travel advice that I learned from a friend of mine,  Sandra Lepholtz (she's also a very gifted Reiki Master). She recommends packing your suitcase like a present. Place shoes on the bottom. Then lay your clothes from the center of the suitcase over the sides. Fill the middle with intimates. Then fold the clothes over. You're set! 


Fingers crossed my girls will follow suit...

Give Day 13: Give Exercise!

Look forward to a new and improved tee to be released in January. 

Who doesn't love a good workout? And enjoying it with friends makes it even better.

Today's GIVE is both healthful and helpful... Offer to take a friend to the gym! You can be their workout partner or their trainer so they can learn firsthand how to do tricky moves like kneeling cable kickbacks. You can even try out Jennifer Nicole Lee's 20 minute Glutes that Salute Workout that she shared with us on the second day of Giving!

Give Day 12: Give Pancakes!


Mmmmm! Oatmeal pancakes are the perfect alternative to the typical syrupy sweet mess that comes in a box. The best part is, oatmeal pancakes are absolutely delicious, nutritious and portable. In fact, they make for perfect holiday gifts.

Put the dry ingredients of the recipe in a Mason jar. You can decorate with a festive bow and give to friends for a healthy breakfast option. Don't forget to include the recipe, like my Power Oatmeal Pancakes.

Consumable gifts like this are cheap and easy and are always appreciated by the recipient. I will definitely be doing this for my friends this holiday season.

Give Day 10: Give a Shovel

Here's my dog, Davidson, looking awfully festive. Can you walk someone's dog today? 
Well, it's that time of year! The snow is starting to fall, and although it has been unseasonably warm up here in Ontario, I know the fluffy white stuff is on the horizon!

While it is beautiful, snow can be awfully hard to handle.

Today I'd like to encourage you to shovel the driveway and clear the sidewalk for someone who can't.

If snow, isn't an issue in your area (lucky you), how about tending to the weeds in someone's garden or mowing the lawn or walking the dog?

There are so many ways to help out  neighbor, family member, friend, or even total stranger in need. What will you do to give back today?

Give Day 9: Give Clothes

Check out my holiday message for you to get into the GIVING spirit!

Did the families in need appreciate your grocery donation yesterday? It really is a marvelous way to give back. In fact, most grocery stores have a donation bin at the exit where you can drop off cans or boxes of food every time you shop. What a great resolution to make for the new year, too!

Onto today's GIVE! I encourage you to clean out your closets. Are their pieces in there you haven't worn in months or years? Time to pack them up and donate them to your local women's shelter or Dress for Success location. The women here will be extremely happy to receive your lovely clothes. This is especially helpful if you've been sticking to your Eat-Clean Diet plan and have clothes that no longer fit. Get them out of your closet so that you don't have anything to fall back on.

Off to my closet I go. Where will your clothes be going today?

I hope all of you enjoyed your delicious holiday beverages yesterday. Now, it's time for some delicious food and a kind gesture...

Today's GIVE asks you to do the groceries for someone who can't (and pay for it if possible). On Friday, as soon as I am home from LA, I'll be treating my daughter, Rachel. She is starting her final exams and I am treating her to lots of healthy foods to fuel her brain and save her time so she can focus on her Naturopathic Medical studies.

Who doesn't love a warm and delicious drink to take you from chilly to cozy during the frigid winter months? In the spirit of our holiday GIVES, I encourage you to share the warmth and treat your friends, coworkers and/or family to a festive beverage today.

Let the Giving Begin!

I am so excited to be posting the first GIVE of the season! Thanks to our amazing Eat-Clean Diet success, Carolyn Channell, for giving me this wonderful idea based on her good deed.

What did Carolyn do? She donated her weight! And you can do the same. Here's how...

Figure out how much weight you have lost or plan to lose. Then, in the spirit of the holidays, I encourage you to follow Carolyn's lead. She lost 120 pounds of weight and subsequently donated this amount to her local charity food bank. Where will you donate your weight?

This is just another great incentive to keep your weight-loss goals in mind especially during the sugar-heavy holiday season. You will feel good (and look good) from the inside and out!
