As most of you know, flaxseed is one of the main players in my Clean Eating plan. I have a few tablespoons on top of my oats each morning, and dash of it here and there when I make smoothies, wraps, muffins, and more. It acts like a scrub brush that cleans you from the inside out.

It seems others are catching onto the trend, too. I just read this article on my local news website here in Toronto. These researchers are studying the effects of regular flaxseed usage on heart function. Not only does this little seed act as powerhouse scrub brush, it may also aid in the reduction of heart disease. Flaxseeds are packed with the ever-important omega-3 fatty acids. These are healthy fats!

Check out the article here. I was surprised to learn that research on flaxseed is so new. Seems us clean eaters have known how good it is for a long time now. What do you think?

  1. If you go to the link given at the bottom of the article it points to the MayoClinic and actually has some concerning information about flaxseed. I guess if people were taking it in huge quantities there would be concern but topping off you oatmeal and adding it to smoothies (like I do now that I read your book) I don't think would be an issue. This is the first I've read that was somewhat negative toward flaxseed. Interesting! I'm glad they are beginning to do more research.

This is my first time commenting but I've been following your blog, and the Eat Clean Diet for 3 months now and I'm feeling great! Thank you!

  2. Research on flax isn't new.

Research examining the effects of flax seeds/oil on cardiovascular health is.

  3. Good point. That is what I meant to say. Thank you for clarifying it for others.

  4. Hi Tosca,I am a huge fan. I have all your books, I am going to get your children's one and tell my friends about it.You are so very inspiring,I loved your real thoughts since your column in Oxygen.I just wanted to say I think a show would be great about Eating Clean,I would watch!!!!
