The Eat-Clean Diet from a Male Perspective

Today we have another of our fabulous male guest bloggers joining us - Joe Salottolo. You've likely met his lovely partner and Eat-Clean Diet Ambassador Shirley, at many of our events. Joe are Shirley are both in their 60s, but you wouldn't know it as they lead healthy, Eat-Clean lives. But don't listen to me... take it from Joe himself! Looking for more? You can also visit him on his blog

Most of my life I have been involved with health and fitness.  One of my biggest problems was eating anything and everything and not really paying attention to what I ate.  I figured that because I was working out that I could eat anything I wanted.  The fast food outlets were great with yummy hamburgers, pizza’s, friend chicken etc..  The bottom line was that I never thought seriously about eating properly.

I was at a fitness show in Belleville, Ontario, Canada in the summer of 2010 and I met the late Robert (Bob) Kennedy.  Bob was taking care of a booth selling fitness magazines.  We looked at each other and shook hands and I told Bob that I had been reading his articles for years.  He had that twinkle in his eyes and a smile that showed his appreciation.  I was truly honoured to meet Bob.  It was better than any bodybuilding competition, because here was a man who rubbed shoulders with the greatest body builders in the world.

Bob showed me a book on the Eat-Clean Diet for Men and I purchased it right away.  He wanted me to meet his lovely wife Tosca Reno.  There was a lineup of people to meet Tosca.  It was amazing to watch her.  She gave her time and had a smile for everyone.  When it was my turn, Bob was there and introduced me to his wife.  Both Tosca and Bob signed my book with smiles and handshakes and great conversation.

So many people in this world of ours have fallen into a pattern of unhealthy eating habits.  The fast-food industry and packaged man made foods have placed a large percentage of the population in an obese situation.  The results of this style of eating has caused increased risk of heart attack and stroke along with many other illnesses.

The benefits I have gained from Eating Clean are increased energy and an overall feeling of good health.  My skin texture looks and feels better and even my hair is healthier.  By Eating Clean I find that I can actually eat more food.

Exercise is great but the biggest percentage of how you look and feel is what you put into your body.
The Eat-Clean Diet for Men is loaded with meals and recipes, menus and shopping lists, to help you get going on the right track.  There  are also tips on shopping at the supermarket, eating out and what to put in your lunch pails, coolers and backpacks.

My partner Shirley is very supportive and is also involved in the Eating Clean lifestyle, so it makes things much easier for me.  The Eat-Clean Diet for Men is a great motivational tool for me to stay healthy and fit.

I eat 5 to 6 meals a day and I drink 5 to 6 tall glasses of water.  I try to include lean proteins, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats.  I know the human body is a natural fat-burning machine and by Eating Clean I boost my metabolism.

A typical breakfast at 8 a.m., would be oatmeal mixed with flaxseed and egg whites.  When it is cooked some of the ingredients added are, raisins, hemp hearts, bee pollen, cranberries, dried apricots, almond milk and also fresh fruits.  I usually have a banana every morning with my breakfast plus one other piece of fruit.

My other meals would be at 10 a.m., 12 noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The workouts are at least 3 to 4 times a week.  We do a split routine type workout, working a large group of muscles with a small group of muscles such as chest and biceps, and back and triceps.  When we work legs we do not include another body part.  Cardio is also included.

I would like to thank Robert and Tosca for enlightening me on the Eat-Clean lifestyle.  I did meet both of them again in the summer of 2011 at the Toronto Fitness Show.

So glad I did!
