Cottaging eh?

Hi Everyone.
It's wonderful to hear from you. Your goals and plans are fantastic. Seems like relaxing is the key word for the month of August.

I will put you out of your misery - "cottaging" is indeed a Canadian term (I think). It means we all leave the city (for me that would be Toronto) and drive like mad to cottage country. Then you park yourself in a Muskoka chair (also a Canadian term) and drink a 2-4 (that's Canadian for a case of beer). Next you open a paper back and flip it open somewhere and put your sunnies on. Continue pretending to read and just sit there and veg. That's cottaging!

All jokes aside cottaging really just means getting away from the hubbub of the big city and taking a break at a cottage preferrably by a lake. The main thing is to relax.

Live it up eh! (definitely a Canadian term)

Cheers

  1. Okay, good - now I don't feel as dumb for not really knowing what "cottaging" was when you asked in your last post, hahaha ;-)

  2. Somehow a mistake has been made. I'm supposed to be Canadian. I'm certain of it.

  3. I knew it! I had a feeling it was "heading out of town" though. Thanks for clearing that up.

  4. Be careful about the use of the word "cottaging". It can be quite confusing to some.

And also, I don't know about calling these expressions Canadian, because I am a fellow Canadian and have never heard or used any of them. Maybe they are native to Toronto, but certainly not the entire Canada :) Just my 2 cents.

  5. Lol Angelika, I'm from the UK and the urban dictionary was what I understood the term to mean. But knew Tosca wasn't referring to that. Everydays a school day.

  6. In Tosca's defense - all are true Canadian terms, and although we are not driving our zamboni to cottage, or driving through Tim Horton's to get a double-double - even me from the farthest west coast part of Canada - has heard those terms before.

You make me laugh Tosca, and the only thing that East coast differs from west coast, is that our case of beer only comes in 12....
    happy summer!

  7. We had some visitors from the UK come to visit us here in Canada and when we mentioned that we were going "cottaging"thier mouths hit the ground. I can't say what the meaning is as this is a family blog but it was quite obsene!!

  9. Thanks for the explanation! We don't have a term like that here in So California, but we should. It sounds like fun!

  10. Hi Tosca,
Question - I need some help, you say you stay away from bread mostly when you are training for an even as I can see. But do you stay away from Ezkiel bread and products? Are they just as bad as all bread? I seem to have some almost everyday maybe 2-3 times in some form or another, wraps, the bread it self or a bagel Ezkiel brand...and I'm not sure if this type of bread would keep the weight/fat on? Should I drop it to see enhanced results? I train heavy but would like to define more. Can't seem to live without this food.
Can you give me some advice as to how much and how frequent it should be consumed. Thank you!

  11. Hi Tosca,
There seems to be a big hype on chocolate skim milk after a work out. Gives you calcium, replenish the carbs lost and protein. But is the high carb coming from the chocolate and is it sugar? When you look at the label for Skim by it self not a lot of carb or protein but the choc has the exact opposite..high carb and protein.
Can you explain this from a nutrition specilist? Thank you.

  14. We cottage in Michigan. We all it going Up North!! It is not very good for the Clean Eating lifestyle though. There's something about being on the boat that makes you want to eat and drink more.

  15. I would use the term with care around anyone from the UK, it means something entirely else over there (and not fit for polite conversation).
