The Goodbye is Coming

Good Evening or Good Morning! I don't know which. It is super late and I can't sleep. I should be exhausted since today was the day of the Big Goodbye Party for my two daughters who are leaving for a long time ... tears here. Rachel is heading off to Portland, Oregon to study naturopathic medicine. She will be away for four years minimum. Her sister Kiersten is going to study in Leiden, The Netherlands for one year. They both leave this week and today was their big send off party. Wellwishers came to say their goodbyes and to enjoy a bounty of fabulous food enjoyed by my new friend/chef, Joanne Lusted and her team. I watched most of the food go by since of course I am dieting for the contest.

Here is what I could have:
Seared tuna with shredded carrot on top
A special order of tilapia done with herbs only
Sweet potato frites
Plenty of water

So I munched on these during the evening and saved the goodbye cake which was really a 5-tiered concoction of scrumptious looking mini cupcakes. I saved three of these for post contest consumption.

Breakfast at 10:00 am
2/3 cup cooked oatmeal with 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
5 scrambled egg whites
2 slices fresh tomato
black coffee
500 ml water

Filming all day so I grabbed 5 egg whites and munched these down at 1:30 pm
Chased with a small raw tomato and 500 ml water

5:00 pm
1 apple
10 unsalted nuts

And dinner was as above.

It was hard to be dieting while everyone was having fun however I reminded myself that it was just for a short while and worth the sacrifice. Hope so!!

No training today as I was already super busy.

Please send lots of well wishes so I can get through the days when my girls leave. I am so proud of them but I know for sure I will miss them like crazy.

Keep it tight!

  1. It seems like it would be so hard letting them go! I have 2 teenage daughters and am trying to prepare myself for that day.

Good for you staying on track at the party. Those situations can be so TEMPTING!

    =)

  3. Tosca,
Watching your nest empty is so hard. My four oldest are back in Indiana and Illinois. Thank goodness for my seven year old-no I did not mention the 19 year old :).
I just got busy with all the things that I couldn't do or afford while they were home!
    I'm thinking of you.

  7. Tosca,
Of all the successes you've worked so hard to achieve, raising two children who are able to enter the world as productive members of society has got to be one of your greatest achievements....and watching them go is the hardest part of all. Hang in there!

  8. Agh! I can only imagine how hard that is what you're going through. I'm struggling right now to put my oldest on the school bus once she starts school in a couple of weeks.

  10. Wow, I am amazed at your emotional strength and your ability to not cave in with all of that delicious food. I will be thinking of you when we attend a Labor Day party this coming weekend....

  11. Aww-Tosca, I wish I could give you a hug right now. I know it doesn't compare but I am sitting here missing my 8 year old on her first day of the 3rd grade. One of the best things we can do for our kids is to give them roots and wings....even though some days, we don't want them to use their wings, we know it's the best for them. Your girls will be fine because they have a terrific mom like you to call home or write to whenever they get homesick.

I am so proud of you for sticking to your clean eating in all of this. You are a true role model to me. I have been so lucky to meet you twice (at the Arnold Classic) and I can't wait to meet you again. Only this time I am going to be at my personal goal.

    Stay strong,
    Jen
