Bailey Kennedy

Today is a sad and rough day in our household. For the past few days we have known that our beloved golden retriever, Bailey (who has been in numerous pics with me and the family... see some below) must be put down today. He has a terrible form of necrotizing cancer which is causing him to suffer greatly. His usually sprightly self has been quiet and withdrawn the last few days. This horrible cancer will end his life, though we would prefer not to have to do it at all. The humane thing to do in our family's opinion is to lift him out of his misery and remember him as the joyous and intelligent creature he was. We will miss his door-opening antics, his cute little curly sashay in his back end, his gorgeous face and eyes, and his constant company. His little friend Davidson will also miss his constant companion. They were like "me and my shadow". Bailey has had 13 lovely years with the our family and his memory will live on forever.
With Love,
Tosca

  7. Sorry to hear about your doggie. I know the feeling all too well, having to do the same thing the week before Christmas for the same reasons. We had our beloved dog for 13 years as well and we miss him dearly. Your Bailey is now playing with my doggie in Heaven!

  13. My thoughts are with you and your family Tosca. We too had to put down our 12 yr old Husky a few years ago, it was the hardest thing to do.
We now have a gorgeous golden who is 3 1/2 and know that someday we will have to go through it again. You did the humane thing, but it hurts nonetheless.

I'm sincerely sorry for your loss.

  14. Hi Tosca,

Sorry to hear your sad news. My family and I had to make the same, nauseating decision last week to put our beloved 17 year old dog, Cassie, to sleep. I know exactly what you're going through and I'm heartbroken for you guys.. Be sure to give each other lots of cuddles and support today and -although it is extremely difficult right now - do your best to focus on the great, cute, funny times... May Bailey Rest In Peace.

    Lots of love,
    Kathryn xo

  20. So sorry to hear about Bailey. Dogs teach us so much, especially to appreciate the simple but most important things in life, loving and being loved. I ache just thinking about losing our dog but so grateful for all she has brought us! Take care Tosca and your family.

  21. Many hugs to your whole family. I've had similar losses and as others have already said, it's the humane thing to do but oh how it hurts! Know you're in many folks' thoughts and prayers, as is Bailey.

  22. So sorry for the loss of your furry family member. It is such a difficult decision to end the suffering of a cherished loved one. My family made the same decision recently with our 17year old pup, Oreo, who had been a sister and companion to me since I was 15. I hope your beautiful memories give you and your family peace as you face the days ahead. Take care,
    Michelle

  26. My thoughts go out to you Tosca and your family. I too have had to put a dog down in the past due to cancer. I know how hard this is. I now have two dogs who welcome me home every day. There are no words for the amount of joy they bring to the home.
Isn't it scary the number of people including you and myself who have posted on here that have lost a dog to cancer? CANCER...I hate that word....we here it every day.
This time we have our dogs on the RAW food diet...also know as the BARF diet (bones and raw food)....there is so much controversy out there and conflicting advice its hard to know if you are doing the best thing for them.

Anyways...my thoughts are with you and your family.

Keep being the Best of the Best.

  28. I understand what you are going through having been through it myself. I remember praying every night that the Lord would take my ailing Whiskers so that I would not have to make the decision. But it does get easier, and time will let you know that your decision was one of the greatest gifts you can give a beloved animal. In a world where so many animals starve and have no name, seeing a dog live in love and happiness for 13 years is a pure blessing.

  33. Oh Tosca! I am so sorry for you and your family! I am in tears reading of Bailey - the love and sense of loss can be felt. I have had to do the same with "my children" a couple of times and it is one of the most painful experiences I have in my memories. Cherish and remember the happy memories and the wonderful 13 years...it's all you can do! Love and hugs to everyone in the family..Davidson too!

  35. Hi Tosca, I would like to offer my condolences to you and your family on your loss of Bailey. I feel particularily sensitive to this as our 10 year old chocolate lab just yesterday underwent surgery in the hopes that we may enjoy his company for a few more years to come. So far so good with his recovery. I think his days of being my running partner are now over but I do look forward to many more long walks.

  41. Tosca, I am so sorry about Bailey. I understand your pain, as I nearly lost my darling Valentine kitty this past July due to a reaction to her standard vaccinations. She developed fluid in her lungs and I was so afraid she wouldn't make it. Luckily she pulled through and is sitting here in my lap as I type, but I know I'll be devastated when her time finally comes. I rescued her off the street 10 years ago when she was quite young and I know I've given her a good, safe, healthy life filled with more love than she can handle sometimes.
You will cry and you will miss seeing him in his usual places in your house and yard, but always remember that you gave Bailey a WONDERFUL AND BLESSED doggy life.
Damn, I'm sitting here crying myself because I feel your loss.
You are in the thoughts and prayers of a lot of people right now. I hope you're able to find some comfort.

  49. Tosca - I am very sorry for your loss. I also can relate as I just had to put my beloved fur baby to rest on January 3rd. He was a Boston Terrier that just had turned 8 in Nov. and he got liver disease that just went after him. It's very hard they are like our children for sure. I am trying to just focus on all the happy times, and wonderful years he gave me. RIP fur baby's.

  54. I'm truly sorry for your loss. It is such a difficult thing to lose a pet. They are always an integral part of any family. I lost my 12 year old yellow lab the week of my wedding this year and it was very difficult. She had cancer and all of her organs shut down. After a very long week of deciding what to do I made the drive to put her to sleep. While I waited in the room for the vet to come in- I lay on the floor with her to say goodbye to my dear friend and she passed away in my arms.

Thank you for sharing the pictures of your lovely pet. My Madison had big "oreo cookie eyes" as well. She will always be dear to my heart and greatly missed.

  55. Dear Tosca-it is a terrible thing to see such a loyal and wonderful companion succumb to a disease that can't be seen. My dog was only 8 years old when he had lymphoma and he fought through it for 15 months. Even though we knew day by day that he was getting worse, it was hard to let go. When he passed away it was by his own acceptance and the loss was devastating. There is no easy way to cope through the grief and the longing that the heart goes through for many many months and years...the best you can do is keep the memory alive even though your pup is happily running after other dogs somewhere on the other side.

  57. I am so sorry for your loss. I had to put my 12 year old rottweiler/shepherd mix to sleep last Thursday, also because of cancer. It is like losing a limb. I try to think of his life as a gift that enriched my own life beyond measure, a treasure that will outlast my sadness. I wish peace to you and your family.
