The Mighty Flax Seed

Hello Flax Eaters All!

Try to eat your flax in the form of seeds rather than oil since the tiny little gems are full of lignans and fiber that will keep you both full and healthy. Imagine adding 2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds to your diet and losing those niggling ten pounds that have been hanging around simply through natural elimination processes! The average North American holds as many as 5 to 25 pounds of accumulated waste in the colon. That is a lot of @#$%!

Go on! Get yourself some flax seeds today. For 5 cents a day you could be healthier and lighter!!!

Good luck!
Let me know how this works out for you.
And Remember,
Eat Clean and Eat Green today. It's Earth Day!

  1. I love flax, but I use ground/milled. I have heard that your body can't digest the whole seed? It that not true? Confused!

  2. I definitely think this will help me! Thanks Tosca!

  3. Interesting! How long would you guess it might take to see if this is working? I understand there are variables, but maybe you could give us a range as a rough idea.
Is there any relationship to how many extra pounds of "stuff" you might have compared to how overweight you are? I.e. if you are 20 pounds overweight could you expect to have up to 5 pounds of extra "stuff"?
    Thank you Tosca!

  4. I have ruined several grinders trying to grind flax seed. Any suggestions on ways to grind it up, or brands of grinders?

  5. Try grinding them in a coffee grinder! Works great!

  6. Thanks for the tip! I used to put ground flax seeds in things but for some reason haven't been for awhile. (I think I felt like I was getting too much fiber and my stomach was feeling bloated and/or really tight). But I think I'll add flax back into my life and see what happens!

  7. My health food store has flax seed already ground, see if yours does. I also hate using my grinder.

    1. Ground flax seeds should be consumed within 15 minutes of the grinding. Never buy ground flax seeds.

  8. I have heard as well that flax seed must be eaten ground because our body cannot process the whole seed.
As well, make sure the location where you buy your flax seed has it in a vacuum sealed package and refrigerated- This is the best way to store it. There are some retailers that keep it in an unrefrigerated bulk container and this is not good.

The flax seed oils will turn rancid, so put it in the fridge when you get home!

  9. YES! Love flaxseed. I started eating clean on 3/8/09 (although I'm weaning off of cheating, so I'm really eating clean 90% of the time). From then until now, I've lost 8 pounds and one dress size. I put the flaxseed (along with wheat germ and bee pollen) in my oatmeal and sometimes in my yogurt. It doesn't have a good taste to me when I put in my cottage cheese.

Uncle Sam cereal has the flaxseeds in the cereal, but I don't think they were being digested properly when I was eating the cereal. I used to recommend that cereal to everyone, but I've found that the ground flaxseed is better. I don't see it later, if you know what I mean...

  10. I am sure Tosca wants you to grind up those seeds before eating them. I bet she would say RIGHT before you eat them too. I grind 1Tablespoon every morning in the Magic Bullet and sprinkle it on my oatmeal (with egg whites of course hehe). Been doing this for a year now....and Tosca is right...those pesky last 10 pounds...gone! :)

  11. grabbed this from wikipedia, thought it might be useful.....
Flax seeds are chemically stable while whole, and milled flaxseed can be stored at least 4 months at room temperature with minimal or no changes in taste, smell, or chemical markers of rancidity.[4] Ground flaxseed can go rancid at room temperature in as little as one week.[5] Refrigeration and storage in sealed containers will keep ground flax from becoming rancid for even longer.

  12. I have been diagnosed with primary biliary cirohsis. is this diet good for me.. I find it hard to lose weight just trying to get some answers... how about flax seed...can i safely take it.
