Speaking at Schools

I had the honor this week of speaking with a group of grade 7 and 8 students from St. Paul's Elementary school in Guelph, Ontario. We gathered in the gym to chat about nutrition and exercise in a non-classroom, interactive setting.

The first thing I asked was how many of them had breakfast. Then I asked what they had for breakfast. The resounding reply was a laundry list of sugary cereals from Fruit Loops to Cap'n Crunch. I hope I surprised more than a few when I showed them that Fruit Loops have the same nutritional values as a Mars bar. There's a good way to start off your day:

After about 25 minutes of questions, answers and giveaways we got up for a half hour of no-nonsense circuit training. It was a great time and left us all sweating profusely by the end. Actually, I am still sore today. I hope the kids are okay!

Thank you to Ms. Melanie Rose-Wideman for setting up the event, and the staff at St. Paul's for hosting.

If only one kid went home that day and changed their eating habits then I have happily done my job.

I just got your book yesterday and I am sitting at work thinking about nothing but getting home and reading more (after I work out of course =]) I am excited to have finally found something doable and really good me for my body in many ways! Its going to be hard to stop counting calories but hopefully I can do it! Thanks so much!!!

  5. I adore you Tosca! You are changing lives :) You could have saved someones life by teaching those children about nutrition. I wish that nutrition classes were mandatory...I think alot of children don't CHOOSE to eat crap, they just dont know better.

    Thank you, Thank you :)
